1/6/2024 0 Comments Normal chest x ray findingsA CT scan of the chest was done, which showed a soft tissue mass consistent with malignancy extending from the region of the carina inferiorly causing mass effect and then inseparable from the esophageal lumen the soft tissue mass extends up to the right mainstem bronchus and appears to be encasing the bronchus intermedius. An esophagogastroduodenscopy was performed and showed erythema of mid esophagus and candida esophagitis. A barium swallow showed narrowing of the mid-esophagus. A chest x-ray showed no evidence of acute cardiopulmonary disease. She also noted that she had problems swallowing solids, which had been increasing over the past few weeks. She stopped smoking 15 years ago but was a smoker for 20 years. Case Report 2 An 80 year old woman presented with difficulty breathing. A CT guided biopsy was done of the mass, and it showed mesothelioma. It showed a soft tissue mass in the subcarinal region abutting the thoracic vertebral column encasing the thoracic aorta and extending up to the posterior aspect of the mainstem bronchi bilaterally causing narrowing of the thoracic esophagus and dilation proximally. A CT scan was done to evaluate the esophageal stricture. An esophagogastroduodenscopy was performed which showed a mid esophageal stricture and candida esophagitis. He had another chest x-ray which showed no acute infiltrate or edema. The findings were consistent with moderate emphysematous disease. This patient had a chest x-ray 2 months prior. Case Report 1 A 62 year old man presented with a chief complaint of dysphagia mostly with solids, nausea, vomiting, and weight loss of 60 pounds. The diagnosis was made after an esophagogastroduodenoscopy showed esophageal strictures not caused by intraesophageal pathology. The lung masses in these cases were not seen on the initial chest x-rays. ![]() We are presenting two cases, in which, progressive dysphagia was caused by a lung mass. Purpose: Introduction: Dysphagia can be caused by several different pathologies.
